Working groups

Working Groups within the Climate Commission take one of four forms:

  • Sub Groups – Commissioner-only, focusing on core business (e.g. finance)
  • Response Groups – Short term, non-Commissioners invited or nominated, focusing on fixed term actions
  • Thematic Groups – Long term, non-Commissioners able to apply or be co-opted, rolling membership, broader remit
  • Partnership Groups – Jointly held with other organisations and networks, closed membership, ensuring connection and reducing repetition

Climate Commissions need support from across the private, public and community sectors, so having involvement from local organisations, businesses, NGOs, community groups, academic institutions, representative bodies, and the local authority is essential. It is important that Commissions consider their wider constituency and reflect the diversity and makeup of the place, and that Commissions are balanced and representative of gender, ethnicity, age, area, income level etc. and are not dominated by the usual suspects.

Therefore having a diverse range of perspectives within Working Groups is important to the inclusive and effective functioning of the Commission.
